Provide document delivery services to all CDC staff.

Provide descriptive cataloging, subject cataloging, classification, authority control, and bibliographic control of all materials in the library collection.

Develop and maintain the CDC library catalog

Keep current on updates, developments and changes in standards and tools required for tasks

Research and evaluate current and/or new software products.

Plan, develop, test and implement enhancements to existing systems in a timely manner.

Create queries of library systems' databases and create spreadsheets of the results.

Troubleshoot access issues with electronic resources as it relates to systems/software functioning.

As new capabilities and systems are added to existing library systems, learn the new systems and develop standard operating procedures and processes in order to perform the activities related to the above and overall performance, accessibility, maintenance, and availability of online library systems and services.

Design, develop, test, implement, troubleshoot and maintain web-based software applications that enhance, integrate and automate library processes and activities using programming languages, apps, standards, editors, and content development systems such as Java, PHP, Perl, Python; Ajax, XML, PHP, SQL, API, Drupal, SharePoint, Dreamweaver.

Provide timely, accurate, audience appropriate technical assistance and trainings to external and internal partners to further the mission of the organization.

Provide technical information and library services in response to requests by CDC staff and in support of CDC's mission.

Provide assistance in a timely manner that conforms to established precedents, established policy, or accepted practice.

Train library staff on complex or novel IT processes, software packages, or modules, as needed.

Provide recommendation to management when additional documentation or trainings of staff or customers is needed, and within timeframes needed.

Maintain effective collaborations with customers and stakeholders in providing prescribed services and work products.

Manage and take primary responsibility for one or more library systems (such as Primo, Voyager, SFX, etc.). This includes monitoring, vendor communications, documentation on systems, and planning activities with system(s).

Develop and implement systems project plans by agreed upon timelines.

Plan for new systems and systems upgrades as appropriate (hardware/software/peripherals).

Routinely provide accurate and useful testing, feedback, and product support is for library systems and products.

Proactively monitor one or more systems and promptly report problems with any system to Project Officer, other systems team members, other affected library staff, and patrons (if warranted). Problems are followed through to resolution.

Assist with the creation and maintenance of information technology security documentation on systems including but not limited to: Certification and Accreditation packages, firewall rules requests, and software approval documentation.

Effectively maintain and coordinate changes to the web interfaces of systems as needed and in order to maintain library-wide branding and design principles across all systems and the library's Intranet/Internet sites.

Liaise with library staff, vendors, and organizational technology agents regarding systems deployment, hardware, and client software upgrades, enhancements, and implementations.

Liaise with institutional technology support staff regarding management and support of library computers and related technologies.


Requires an ALA accredited Master's Degree in Library Science; AND 2 or more years of experience as a Librarian II.


Possesses skill set at full journey Librarian level and first-line supervisory Librarian level.

Performs full range of professional level library service duties.

Must have knowledge of programming languages, apps, standards, editors, and content development systems such as Java, PHP, Perl, Python; Ajax, XML, PHP, SQL, API, Drupal, SharePoint, Dreamweaver.

Knowledge in AACRII cataloging rules

Application of current trends in RDA (Resource Description & Access) cataloging scheme

Using MARC format in OCLC cataloging

Using Library of Congress subject headings (LCSH) or

Using NLM (National Library of Medicine) MeSH (Medical subject heading)

Working on e-journal or e-book cataloging

Original cataloging or Complex copy cataloging

Knowledge/Skills in database maintenance in local automated system

Detail oriented (pay attention to details/typos)
