Electrical Systems Engineer
Job Summary

The Electrical Systems Engineer fills a key role in architecting, designing and implementing the low voltage electrical system of the clients product. The ideal candidate will bring a systems-based approach to this effort and will engage, as required, in all levels of development from the system level to the component level. This role demands a candidate who is equally adept at thinking about the big picture while also relishing the periodic dive into deep engineering detail.

Key Responsibilities and Activities

* Develop 12V electrical power distribution, communication and control systems that meet automotive and light sport aircraft standards and regulations (FMVSS and ASTM 2245)
* As needed, design the electrical system at either the architectural level (block diagram) or schematic level.
* Assume responsibility for the specification, selection or development of embedded modules consisting of electronic control units, avionics units, human-machine interface (HMI) modules, vision cameras all communicating through CAN, Ethernet or other serial protocols
* Specify, identify, integrate and verify operation of Commercial/Modified-Off-the-Shelf (COTS/MOTS) electronic subsystems for inclusion in the vehicle electronic system (e.G., TPMS, airbag control, powertrain control)
* Generate requirements documents and/or specification documents to guide the work of internal engineers or external suppliers
* As necessary, design and implement automotive compliant circuits, composed of analog, digital, microcontroller and power management components
* Assist in the definition of system level state machines to guide detailed development of the operation of system software (e.G. MathWorks Stateflow)
* Write, maintain and oversee the execution of test plans and design verification plans for elect
* Prepare and release electrical design and fabrication documentation to assist with transfer into Manufacturing

Required Skills and Experience

* Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
* 4-7 years of relevant systems level electrical development experience with a demonstrated history of complete product development cycle resulting at least one product transferred into manufacture through a complete development cycle
* Analog & digital circuit design and schematic capture. Circuit design including CAN networks, I/O protection, sensors, signal conditioning, A/D conversion and battery management. Experience with Altium Designer preferred
* Experience integrating and debugging systems containing COTS modules, custom circuits, software, sensors, and HMI GUIs
* Familiarity with electrical system design for EMC compliance. Experience with EMC testing and remediation of EMC non-compliance a plus
* Familiarity using lab test equipment, including oscilloscopes, multimeters, current probes, data acquisition, and CAN bus analyzers
* Wire harness design and connector component selection and sourcing
* Ability to use Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
* Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills

Desired Skills and Experience

* Master's Degree in Electrical Engineering
* Familiarity with the use of Matlab, Simulink and Stateflow for systems level design
* Familiarity or experience working with and around high voltage hybrid drive propulsion systems
* Automotive/aeronautics wire harness design experience, SolidWorks Electrical experience a plus
* Familiarity with a formal phase gate Product Development Process
* Familiarity or experience with embedded programming of microcontrollers using C/C++ & CPLD/FPGA design using HDLs a plus
