This position is responsible for MVS platform performance and configuration management. Responsibilities involve monitoring MVS resource utilization, developing platform performance models, construction of reports and processes, maintenance of models, configuration design, and management reporting. Manages and maintains data warehouse products for measurement data.
Duties and Responsibilities
Assists in the production of short and long range performance monitoring: correlates and translates business requirements and transactions to distributed, mainframe, or network resource requirements. Works with business analysts, application developers, project managers and technical staff to coordinate collection/measurement of resource requirements and to refine performance assessments new/changing/moving applications.
Receives direction for tasks from management.
Installs performance tool software releases or new software products as directed by management.
Provides related performance and tuning tasks for software products.
Provides the day-to-day maintenance of system resources, controls, definitions and configuration parameters for all owned software products.
Documents the technical environment for all owned software products.
Recommends direction within the area of primary responsibility.
Plans and Supplements new releases of existing software or new software products within the area of primary responsibility.
Manages, tracks, augments, and modifies the performance and tuning aspects of software products within the area of primary responsibility.
Defines and provides system configuration parameter and construct standards for the base operating system and for all sub-components.
Conducts the problem resolution process as required for all products within the area of primary responsibility.
Provides technical guidance and training to other team members.
Provides backup to another area within the MVS Platform team when required.
Assists in the problem resolution process as required or directed by senior staff.
Provides technical guidance, assistance, and training, where possible to other members of the Information Systems division.
Job Experience Requirements
A minimum of five year’ s experience with z/OS (MVS). SMP/E experience is required.
SYSPLEX experience is strongly desired:
Practical experience and/or exposure to IBM DB2, C.I.C.S. is preferred but not required.
General OS skills (TSO, SDSF, ISPF, etc…)
Experience with forecasting, capacity planning, and workload performance analysis
Coding / Reporting experience with one or more of the following (SQL, JCL, SAS, MXG, MICS, REXX, ASSEMBLER)
Familiar with one or more of the following mainframe monitors (RMF, IBM’ s APA, Omegamon)
Experience with Workload Management balancing, MF Configuration, DB2, Remedy, Control-M or CA7, or Forecasting
Thorough familiarity with WLM and a wide variety of SMF data
Moderate familiarity with major environments such as CICS, DB2, MQ, and Websphere• Experience using monitoring and analysis tools such as RMF, Omegamon, and APA
Experience with Network products (VTAM, Netview, TCP/IP).
An advanced knowledge of problem solving tools and techniques and the ability to perform and collect data required to solve complex system and component problems.
A working knowledge of Disaster Recovery processes and philosophy.
